Minutes: Public Works; May 25, 2010

PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE MINUTES
Tuesday, May 25, 2010, 6:00 p.m.
Public Works Shop, 535 S. Madison St., Evansville, WI


Present: Janis Ringhand, Mason Braunschweig, Todd Culbertson, Dave Wartenweiler, Dave Sauer, Mayor Sandy Decker.

Call to order at 6:00 by Chair Ringhand

Motion to approve the agenda as printed by Culbertson/Braunschweig, unanimous.

Motion to approve the minutes of the April 27, 2010 meeting as printed, by Culbertson/ Braunschweig, unanimous.

Citizen appear – none

Construction Updates/Communication from City Engineer –

a. Treatment plant – paved some areas; 8 electricians on site for 2nd week in a row. Covers for clarifiers are installed, equipment is inside; control panels need to be set yet. Equipment schedule is being checked out, plumbing is being installed, service building is being rehabbed. Kendall Wethal is doing landscaping.
b. Wind turbine – foundation is in, waiting for concrete test results to come back. Tower should go up mid-June, operational by end of June.
c. 6th St. detention pond update – invited to review property, weather was not conducive to work today, will proceed in better weather.

Site Plan Reviews – None

Communications from Public Works Director –

a. Main St. paving project ahead of schedule, should finish ahead of schedule.
b. Reviewed City sewer rate charges, annual averages for municipalities our size, we are in the mid to low range.
c. Large pine tree at the park was struck by lightening today, had to be removed.

Mayor Decker reported on “Leading by example” project with WPPI. To meet goals for the Public Works Department, we can purchase 8 blocks of renewable energy for $24.00 per month, $288.00 annual cost. Public Works Director will review purchase of green energy and make a recommendation next month.

Inquiry about using vacant lot on Main and Railroad Sts. for City Parking. Braunschweig inquired about the physical condition of the lot, would we be responsible for the current condition of the property or would it be improved? Public Works Director will look into possibilities

New Business – Request from Public Safety for compact car parking at 1st & Main Sts. Sign already exists on south side of street, Public Works Director will check on signs.

Old Business – Culbertson commented on worn paint lines on parking stalls on Main St., PW Director stated paint does not adhere well to brick. Painting occurs in the fall, will check into it then.

Park & Recreation Report – Working with Formecology on landscaping around Lake Leota; V-notch in progress in area of former Rose Garden.

Motion to adjourn by Culbertson/Braunschweig at 7:00 p.m., unanimous.
